Have Finley dance around like a ballerina as a reward and she’ll be right on track!

today at preschool Griffin made a Presidents Day necklace. He explained how it was made, “Ms. Rebecca glued the penny on with a GLUE GUN! Do you know what a glue gun is? It’s like a gun, and it shoots GLUE!”

Dana Deaton Griffin woke up this morning, looked at me, and this was the first thing he said, “Mama, let me tell you something about me. I don’t like palmetto bugs, but I do like dragonflies.”

lol. Did you tell him that “palmetto bug” is just a nice way of saying “cockroach”?

Amelia is 20 months old now.  Here are the things that seem to consume her little mind these days:

1.  her babies (dolls)

2.  Shoes:  Amelia is really into shoes

3. Books “unt book book”

4. Watching us draw pictures of pigs

5. singing: EIEIO, This Old Man, and a song we made up called “Amelia Amelia Amelia Amelia Amelia”

6.  kissing and hugging goodnight

7.  Uncle Jeff, Nana, Poppy, Jommy (G-mama), Danda (Gramma and Grandad- same name)

8. swinging in the back yard

9.  picking on Griffin (she likes to take his Lego guys away and hear him scream)

10.  Watching a TV show “unt show”.  She likes Little Einsteins, Backyardigans, and Hi 5 (or whatever Griffin has picked out!)

This past weekend we went to Brevard to visit with the Lees.   We stayed at Connestee Falls, near Brevard.  It was great to see everyone, do a bit of “hiking” with the kids, and relax.   Unfortunately it rained most of the time we were there.  That did make some impressive waterfalls and flooded creeks.

Amelia woke up at 5am every morning we were there.   On Saturday morning, it was completely dark, and the rain was softly falling outside the window.  Perfect sleeping weather, unless you have a 19 month old sitting in the bed with you wide awake.  Finley and I were both half asleep and trying to reason with her:

“Amelia, it’s dark.  It’s time to sleep.  Please lie down”

“Unt up”

“You want up?”

“Hi” (Hi means Yes)

“What do you want to do?”

“Eat”

“What do you want to eat?”

“Food”

“What kind of food do you want to eat?”

“Cake”

With that, Finley and I both cracked up.  Amelia wanted to eat cake at 5:30 in the morning.  I think the laughing woke Griffin up, who was also sleeping in the room with us.  Then Finley (thank you) took both of them up for breakfast.  (Nutrigrain bars, not cake!)

Dana Deaton and Finley had a big kidfest in the back yard today. Now I’m TIRED! It was a big party. 36 hotdogs, 20 juice boxes, and 47 beers consumed.

Dana Deaton is home from a lovely First Friday evening in downtown Raleigh. Lump, Stitch, and a gin and tonic at Foundation (with Skip, who was dressed as an umpa lumpa).

Dana Deaton Amelia fell off a chair and landed on her face. What consoled her and made the tears go away? Diet Coke.

Griffin has “transition day” at his new preschool in the morning, and begins his classes on Wednesday. We’re excited and a little anxious for him.  This is a big change for him.  He will have art, music, and dance class each day.  We think he’s going to love it,  but of course it will take a few weeks to get adjusted.  Fairmont has been a wonderful place for him for the past two years, and we’re glad that Amelia is there now.  It is nice to be able to have them both in loving places where they have some little friends and great teachers.  I also enjoy having them out of the house for 6 hours a week!!
